Urban Glitz Beaded Jewelry Opens Online Store

Frederick, MD September 5, 2004 -- Richy Sharshan, jewelry designer and owner of Urban Glitz, has opened an online store at www.urbanglitz.com. The site features handstrung beaded jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, earrings and beaded bookmarks. Designed by Immersion Active, one of the mid-Atlantic's leading interactive agencies, the Internet store contains a gemstone library with lists of birthstones, the symbolic meanings of stones and colors, as well as traditional and modern wedding anniversary gifts. There are also jewelry fashion tips and an area with photos so shoppers can visualize necklace lengths.

A creative director and writer, Richy is also owner of Sharshan Creative, a Frederick marketing firm, and is a past president of the Greater Frederick Advertising Federation. She began making beaded jewelry in 2003 when she was injured and forced to take a break from competitive tennis. "I took a class and fell in love with beading. Soon friends were ordering jewelry," she explained, "and it grew fast from there."

Urban Glitz pieces feature unusual combinations and, for the most part, are one-of-a-kind designs, which Richy said is appealing to many women. "They are looking for something different that they won't see anyone else wearing. There are just a handful of designs that I do make in limited numbers," she said. "I found that much of the jewelry made by artists is expensive, so I kept Urban Glitz prices in a range that the average person can afford.

"I do a few festivals and trunk shows during the year, but people wanted a place to shop for Urban Glitz jewelry year round, so I decided to go with a full E-commerce online store," she said. "The response has been great! The site is very fast and easy to use and we've already had visitors to the site from England, New Zealand, Australia and Japan, so I'm very excited!" Urban Glitz jewelry is also sold at The Muse on Market Street in downtown Frederick.
